Tuition
Tuition is tailored to individual needs, aimed at building confidence
alongside increasing technical skills. By providing inspiration, guidance
and support, students will be encouraged to develop new ways of seeing and
creating. With a maximum of six students per group, you are guaranteed
plenty of individual attention.
Pembrokeshire is renowned for its scenery and amazing light which have inspired artists for hundreds of years. Situated in the heart of the National Park, we have easy access to many stunning locations providing a wealth of inspiration in this beautiful area. Courses will include as much outdoor work as appropriate.
The resident tutor, Lindsay Mackay, has thirty four years experience teaching art to a wide variety of students. With both art and teaching qualifications, he is a skilled motivator and brings humour and enthusiasm to the studio. His philosophy of teaching is -
"Whichever course you are thinking of joining please be aware that it is YOUR skills and artistic perceptions that matter. You will not be expected to produce work that looks like mine!!
All the courses involve the appreciation of the basic artistic tenets
that apply to work done on a two dimensional surface; TONE, VISUAL
LANGUAGE, COMPOSITION, LINE, FORM, PICTORIAL SPACE.
Weakness in your use of any of these areas may be what is holding you back!
My job is to help you recognise any weakness and show you how to solve them. Every aspect of the structured tuition you receive at Studio Llwyndrain will be designed to allow YOU to maximise YOUR potential.
This is the reason why I ask you to bring some examples of you own work, so that I can assess, quickly, your personal requirements for the time you are here. Having only six people in the Studio allows for a comprehensive look at your skill and your artistic perception. There is a comprehensive range of books and art monographs for you to refer to. Please bring some 'painting' clothes!! If you need any further information / encouragement please contact me at art@thornygrove.co.uk or call on 01239 832054."
For all courses the daily timetable is the same.
The Studio is open at 0900 and the course starts at 0930. There is no mid morning break as such – you get it when you want it from the kitchen. The sit down, home cooked lunch will usually be at 12.30 – 13.00 ( but flexible, if we are on a roll!!). Packed lunch on location. Course activity ends at 16.30 with an over view of the day’s activity and progress. The studio will remain open until 8pm for those wishing to work into the evening.
We will be offering courses run by visiting tutors and artists – please keep checking for details, or contact us if you would like further information.
